Program
The course named "Environmental pollution and health" consists on two main aspects: the study and the knowledge of the environmental health and of the occupational health. This is intended to observe in two different contexts, the role of several predictor variables, mainly environmental, in the expression on healthy populations of biological effects. This approach heavily preventive and applied of healthy populations, must be driven by the concept of primary prevention and characterized by a reduction or, at best, by the elimination of the risk factors for human health in the different environments of life and work.
The main methodological approach involves the use of environmental markers, mainly of chemical nature, which allow explaining, even if only partially, the expression of biomarkers measured on selected groups of volunteers by means of advanced epidemiological tools. During the series of meetings, some principal biological targets will be considered:
- The quantification of different biomarkers of internal dose and biomarkers of effect, and the evaluation of their relationship with predictive variables taken into account. For example benzene - tt muconic acid, exposure to tobacco smoke and cotinine, formaldehyde and PM and induction of oxidative stress, quantify through isoprostane and 8-OHdG, etc.
- The evaluation of respiratory health on different groups of volunteers grouped according to exposition to air pollutants, age, job function, level of urbanization of home, quality of nutrition, physical activity, and body structure.
The approaches proposed offer the opportunity to describe some of the main primary prevention and health promotion techniques
